How Much Power Do You Really Have?

Power – Spheres of Influence
There are five basic levels of power and meaning that a person can “choose” to live by. We take the view that happiness is a by-product of how much power and meaning an individual enjoys in his life. Wellbeing is not automatic. It comes from choosing a path that includes finding the best correspondence between our potential and what the world needs and then applying it. Also, the decline of religion and the rise of the scientific revolution in the last couple of hundred years has left a ‘spiritual gap’ in many people’s lives that no amount of shopping or accumulation of things can fix.

Self-Preservation
We consider this to be the primary purpose of our existence. All other goals and values are pursued in order to continue to exist. By ‘Self’ we mean the total physical, mental, social and spiritual person.

Self Power
Self power is the most ‘personal’ level and it’s about the authentic talent that one possesses and the pursuit of genuine inner freedom.

Social Power
This represents one’s intimate connection and engagement with a select few others - that is, one’s close friends and family.

Secular Power
This relates to one’s allegiances at a greater personal distance; your work environment, interest group, nation, humanity.

Spiritual Power
The highest level relates to an individual’s power and meaning within their inner world – that is, the invisible and unknowable or sacred aspects of nature & existence.

Unfortunately most people do not choose for themselves what levels of power and meaning they will live by; these are decided for each person by external influences and accidental occurrences such as time and circumstances.
