Planning Your Life Gives You A Massive Edge
April 22nd, 2009 by Gary Hipworth

On average only 5 people out of every 100 by the age of 65 are financially independent. The top 5% developed the habit of writing out their life plans, setting goals for themselves and tracking their progress, year after year.

Repeated research has shown that having a dream in your head is not enough - it helps tremendously to write your goals and dreams down before they become powerful enough to come alive.

The best skill you can learn for making the most of your life is to LEARN HOW TO CREATE YOUR FUTURE...and not just keep reacting to your circumstances. Your life will change in such profound ways that you will never, ever go back to being a 'reactor'.

Communicate your life plans to your supporters...better still, involve them right at the start and ask for their feedback on your plans. Successful people do not believe in miracles or luck, they plan to make their own! Build a small team of people who are committed to helping each other achieve their dreams because it is very tough on your own and peer group pressure is the best known way to stay accountable to yourself! (Remember that for most of human evolution we were hunters and gatherers and survival for one was survival for all).

Nature never wastes anything, so learn from her and don't waste any more time on dreams without a written plan and a deadline.

If money was not an obstacle, what would you do with your life? Now plan to find a way to change your life accordingly, and you will be amazed how creative you will become if you really want to live your true purpose. Don't get lost in the forest! The process of planning your life is just as important as the content, because it forces you to take 'time 'out' from your busy life and work out what is really important.

If you have more than one major passion or calling in your life then it is possible to combine them all - you don't have to give up anything, but you will need to become a very good life planner and manager of your time. Some things will be done for their own sake and some things will generate income.

Whatever you decide to do with your life, you should make a massive effort to become a salesperson. No, I don't mean to start selling used cars, but to alter your approach to how you deal with people. A lot of people out there have something you want, so the only way to get what you want is to persuade them to give it to you - but I always advocate one condition - maintain your integrity. A successful salesperson is positive, listens well, laughs with you, and builds rapport easily by being genuinely interested in you and your life. "How can I help you?" is the best question you can ever ask anyone. Then shut-up and listen very carefully to their answer. You just became a great salesperson!

Once you have produced a life plan, build some quick momentum by taking some small steps such as sending off some emails, picking up the phone
and calling people who may be interested in your plans and so on.

Keep building the momentum and changing your plans if they are not working.
