Reincarnation Or
Elation?

Have you investigated this for
yourself or are you relying on tradition or other people's views?
Look around at the world, at life, at the universe and what do you see?
Nothing is permanent.
That includes you and me and everything else. I think the Buddha said this 2,500 years ago. Are we slow learners or
what? Unfortunately for Buddhism, they also inherited the reincarnation idea from the existing Indian religious traditions of
the time when the Buddha was alive.
I've
also had a good look at whether I have a soul or anything permanent in my brain....sorry to disappoint
you but my brain and the related mind or consciousness or awareness are processes that require this body
'I' inhabit to be alive.
The only 'thing' that might live on after I am dead for a while anyway is some of my ideas or experiences I
have written down somewhere or will become memories in other people, and my children. I say 'might' live on because
it is highly unlikely I have anything really original to add to human knowledge. But there will be other
original thinkers that will live on through their culture.
So why are so many people and some religions convinced that reincarnation is real?
Many
people won't face the facts of existence so it's basically through a lack of courage.
The sad irony is that when you believe in reincarnation life loses its incredible 'onceonlyness' and you are much
less likely to make the most of it or to enjoy each moment of passing time.
