Evolution is a continuously creative and
destructive process that has had a few billion years on Planet Mirth to strut its stuff. What is it doing?
Creating new forms, destroying old ones. Then we were created.
We are self-conscious creatures that know we will die one
day - unlike all other creatures who do not have the ability to foresee their own
end. Or in crude terms...we are gods and worms at the same
time, and that means you and I are in an impossible situation. If we are going to end up as worms
anyway...
Why bother with planning for
tomorrow?
Why bust your guts at nightschool to
get a degree?
Why even bother mowing the stupid
lawn?
And especially why bother becoming
a better person?
So here's the critical points when we
seriously ponder Evolution's Ridiculously Impossible Creation (ERIC):
Evolution has been blind to its
own actions and processes up until it created the modern form of human species. For thousands of
years religion and other kinds of tribal and social conditioning shielded our ancestors
from questioning their existential dilemma. It's only in the last few hundred years with the
decline of religion and the rise of science and global population and environmental pressures that our
species has had to face up to its own inner demons as a root cause of suffering on our
planet.
Humans now understand what
evolution is doing and its ridiculous and pointless but we don't have a choice in being here - it just
happened!
We can take this news in one of
three ways - ridicule the messenger and get on with life as if nothing had happened, or get depressed
and seek comfort in.......(name your favourite addiction), or see the beauty and impossibility of human
existence and make the most of it by going for the impossible - for its own sake. Paradoxically,
the latter possibility is precisely what our world needs right
now!
When an individual wakes up to his
own mortality, rather than humanity's false beliefs about mortality, his consciousness will change,
meaning he will shed his immortality illusions and then he comes face to face with his
inevitable death. This can be terribly unsettling and confusing, but there is no going back to fairy
tales or the cultural lie he had been living.
Awakened courageous individuals are no longer
wishing and hoping and praying that everything will turn out all right, and they become their own light
and create new ways of living in the world and fear no-one because they have faced the mother of all
fears.
